A stunning yet modest ring from he early 2000's, the head featuring an oval shaped, cabochon cut star ruby, bezel set and mounted on a plain shank, all in 18ct yellow gold.
What is a star ruby? From Wikipedia:
An asterism (from Ancient Greek ἀστήρ (astḗr) 'star' and -ism) is a star-shaped concentration of light reflected or refracted from a gemstone. It can appear when a suitable stone is cut en cabochon (i.e. shaped and polished, not faceted).
It occurs in rubies, sapphires, garnet, diopside, and spinel when a cabochon is cut from a suitable stone. Star sapphires and rubies display the property from titanium dioxide impurities (rutile) present in them.
Hallmarked as 18ct gold, dated London 2001.
The stone plus the bezel setting measures approximately 9.7mm (L) x 7.5mm (W).
The approximate weight is 3.3 grams.
